Blogging reaction to 24 as I watch.  Last week’s episode recap is here.

President Taylor talking to some foreign diplomat.  Tells him there was a coup attempt on Hassan from within his own inner circle.

Jack on way to Renee’s location in his Clark Kent costume.

Dana gets an inconvenient call from her ex-boyfriend from the location of his planned robbery.

Jack arrives and argues with Renee.  He wants to pull her out of the operation.

Dana gets back with her ex.  Very nervous, lots of tension…  Gives him the key codes to get through security and reminds him of the $120k payoff.  Genius thieves aren’t wearing any gloves.  Guess they think Dana has magic CTU dust that can erase their fingerprints.  Now they’re getting greedy looking at all the other stuff.  I foresee problems from which they will demand extra help from Dana or they will expose her.  What has the world come to when you can’t trust thieves to keep their word?

It’s annoying me that I can’t keep these Russian guys straight.  Callum Keith Rennie the Russian creepy rapist guy is forcing shots on Jack and putting his paws all over Renee.  Jack doesn’t look pleased.  Creepy rapist guy (CRG?) is trying to make small talk with Jack, who tells him to stay focused on the deal.

The other bad-ass Russian guy, Jurgen Prochnow, is talking to a priest about his recently dead son.  ”This boy is with the angels” he says.  The priest doesn’t know that Father of the Year is the one who introduced him to the angels.

Prochnow talking to son #2 David Anders. (do these guys have character names?)  Comes into the room menacingly where he has been keeping him imprisoned.  Explains that everything he’s done has been for the family, there was no other way.

It’s CRG on the phone.  Apparently his name is Vladimir!  Sergei Petrovich! Prochnow has a name too.  Wants to talk business.  Vladimir wants to know about uranium rods for sale, Sergei tells him no one sells them and not to call him again.  Renee gets Vladimir to make more calls looking for the rods.  Sergei starts making calls, alarmed that someone knows about the rods.  Contingency plans are apparently in motion.

President Hassan, 10:29pm.  President Taylor calls on the phone to complete work on treaty.  Wants to know how he’s dealing with his internal security matters.  Hassan talks to his security people, they don’t think the guy they interrogated has anything to do with the coup attempt.  Hassan orders pressure on the guys family back in the home country.  Security guy looks uncomfortable with enhanced interrogation methods, probably watches MSNBC.  Hassan orders another security guy to carry out his orders.

Back at the big heist, Dana’s ex and his partner trip an alarm.  They call her in a panic right when Dana is getting new info from Chloe.  Chloe looks suspicious as she runs off the CTU floor to deal with them.  She pulls up the security cameras and directs them to an escape route, which is locked.  A baseball bat is grabbed, foreboding music foreshadows violence.  Will Dana be an accomplice to a cop murder?  Yes, she will.

10:40pm.  Uncomfortable security guy goes to Hassan’s daughter.  They embrace.  Tells her of her father’s plans to pressure potential spy’s family.  Security guys come to the door and arrest him.

Vladimir finishes making calls, can’t find anyone who deals in uranium rods.  Renee insists he keep trying.  They argue, when Renee says “I need this deal! Do you think I’m here for you?” he slaps her, and… FINALLY she lets loose the crazy woman we knew was locked up inside! Renee stabs him in the face, then repeatedly in the groin and abdomen.  Jack rushes in and in a frenzy she stabs him too?  Wait, what?

Jack, pain and surprise in his face, grabs the knife from his own abdomen and throws it into the throat of the guard that rushes in.  Suddenly full of vigor he grabs a gun and starts shooting more guys through the wall (FTW!).  Jack rushes over and comforts Renee, no hint of pain or injury in his face.  His mutant healing factor has kicked in.  Need to add to the jackbauerfacts.com site.

10:50pm.  Jack puts a band-aid on his mere scratch while talking to the CTU director.  It’s only a flesh wound apparently.  CTU director yells at Dana to pull it together after ordering Vladimir’s body be brought back for an autopsy.

Renee tearfully expresses to Jack if she could just do things right she could get her life back.  She doesn’t have anything, anyone.  Jack: “You have me, OK?”  Tender moment, wipes away a tear.  Builds her up, praises her contributions.

Suddenly more Russians show up, must be Sergei’s men.  Jack plans to let them capture him, knowing they need to find out how much he knows.  Hides Renee, Jack gives up.  Says all he wants to do is business, they take him away.

Freddie Prinz and his CTU team arrive to clean up the horror movie scene at Vladimir’s hideout.  Renee tells them Jack went with the Russians, but CTU has been monitoring from the air and didn’t see anything.  Renee has that crazy look on her face – do they think she’s completely insane now?  Last shot is Jack and the Russians walking out of a tunnel and to a waiting van.

This was a really good episode.  Annie Wersching and her crazy eyes continue to impress.  Best part of the episode was clearly her freak-out scene and Jack’s subsequent reveal of his healing superpower.  Can’t wait til next week, maybe he’ll use his adamantium claws to escape from the chains the Russians have him tied up with.
