The Canadian rock trio Rush just gave me a reason to watch at least part of the Olympics this year. I normally have no interest whatsoever in watching the Olympics, as the networks typically make it impossible to follow any particular athlete or sport with the way they schedule the coverage. But, I will be tuning in at least for the opening ceremony, as I am a HUGE Rush fan.
Recent reports indicate that Bryan Adams and Sarah McLachlan have been spotted rehearsing for the show.
Meanwhile, Rush and 16-year-old Montreal jazz singer Nikki Yanofsky also seem to be involved. A publicist for the veteran Toronto rock trio and Yanofsky herself both responded to questions from The Canadian Press with no-comments, citing non-disclosure agreements.
Rush-centric blog RushIsABand also reports the rumor that Rush will perform the popular rock instrumental YYZ (from the Moving Pictures Album) as part of a larger performance showcasing Canadian music.
If you’re not familiar with Rush or YYZ, here is a clip from their 2004 Rush in Rio concert tour.
Olympics opening ceremonies: Friday on NBC at 7:30pm EST.
