Previously, on 24…

As always, I’m liveblogging reaction to tonight’s episode of 24.  Kids in bed and DVR queued up.  SPOILERS after the break.

Josef arrives at the warehouse with the nuclear rods.  Jack has his father, Sergei Bazhaev, call Josef to try to negotiate.  I’m still not sure why Sergei is flipping for immunity.  He seemed like such a bad-ass before, why does he want to just give up on his evil plan?  Whoa! Josef gets shot by Hassan’s men!

WTF!  He’s dead?  Total underutilization of David Anders.  Between him and Callum Keith Rennie, that’s two cool Russians who are now dead.

Jack calls Renee at CTU.  She seems oddly calm and collected.

CTU Director Hastings gets a call from a White House official.  Reminds Hastings that CTU was reconstituted with his backing and that they need a fall guy in the event things go sideways.  WH guy suggests Renee Walker.  Hastings defends her half-heartedly.  Looks troubled, but ultimately agrees.

12:14  Cole gets a call from CTU.   Arlo has info about Dana’s whereabouts and leaves in a CTU vehicle, after Arlo warns him about leaving tracks.  Note to self:  always take the advice of the guy suggesting you shouldn’t leave evidence of a felony.

Dana’s in her car staking out the ex-boyfriend, partying with some nice young women.  Ominously screws a silencer into her firearm.

Hastings meets with the WH designated investigator who’s going to railroad Renee, leads her off to do her dirty work.

The WH stooge has a name:  Kristen Smith from the Justice Department.  Chloe seems perturbed she has to leave the room.  So what else is new.  Chloe protests to Hastings that Renee was about to sign her completed statement and wants to know why she couldn’t observe.  Hastings shuts her down and sends her back to her station.

Farhad Hassan speaks with one of his flunkies about moving the nuclear rods out of the country.  Hassan seems confused at Samir’s change in recruiting strategy.  The thugs seem to have a different idea on how to use the nuclear rods.  I’m starting to question Hassan’s leadership skills.

12:27  Kristen Smith questions Renee about her past with Vladimir.  She seems skeptical about Renee’s story.  She better watch out or Renee’s going to go all crazy on her.

Jack shows up at CTU with Bazhaev.  Chloe fills him in and Jack immediately knows what’s up.   He wastes no time getting physical with the guard and the Justice flunky.

“Son you’d better put that down or you’re going to get hurt.”  Awesome.  Too bad there was another guy there.  No worries, Jack will prevail.

So how long until hipster Hassan ends up dead?  Not long I think.

Whoa, didn’t expect him to do that.  There’s fight in that soulpatch!

12:30  Jack brought before Hastings in handcuffs.  ”Sorry, maybe I wasn’t clear.  I meant I’d call the President.”

Chloe bursts in with news that Farhad Hassan is on the line.  Begs for help.  Cole unavailable due to his personal mission.  Jack leaves to be “processed” out.

Cut to Dana, staking out the party van down by the river.  The girls leave, and Dana  picks up her gun to make her move.  Cole shows up just in the nick of time, Dana spills her past to Cole.

12:49  Samir leaves some guys behind to hunt for Farhad as he retreats to a secure location with the rods.  Hastings is briefing a wet-behind-the-ears stand-in for Cole.  Jack suggests another strategy might be in order.  Jack offers to bring in Farhad if Hastings drops the investigation into Renee.  Hastings counters – Jack is in til the mission is done, not just to bring in Hassan.

Dana continues to spill info to Cole, including telling him about the robbery.  Cole explains things to the ex and his partner.  The partner gets greedy, wanting to kill Cole and continue using Dana to help with future robberies.  He stabs the ex, and goes after Cole and Dana with predictable results.  Uh oh, Cole has his hands dirty and bodies to hide now.  Forensic evidence, maybe there’ll be a crossover episode with CSI now.
